OCR: There are a number of different groups of plants, and so-called 'higher' plants are separated into two main groups: flowering plants and coniferous plants. Conifers are the fir trees and are not commonly found in desert ecosystems, although the cone-bearing Welwitschia of the Namibian desert is a conifer. The flowering plants are further separated into monocotyledons (plants with one seed leaf) and dicotyledons (plants with two seed leaves).
